Also taking every possible opportunity to flash their wedding rings at other people, from their friends to strangers at the grocery store.

For the rest of their lives they’ll both occasionally stop, look at the other, and think something like “I can’t believe he chose me.”

Guts is a surprisingly good cook so he does most of the cooking. Griffith cleans more. But it’s not a 50/50 split. and like, while Guts is cooking Griffith will help out and chop vegetables, and Griffith will do the dishes but Guts will dry and put them away.

I like to headcanon modern au Griffith as running a nonprofit, so before he gets married he’s a workaholic, no life outside of work, feels like it’s the only thing that makes his existence worthwhile. After getting married he’s much more capable of stepping back, taking time off, and appreciating domesticity.

Can Guts read

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing that ever indicates he can read, and I def headcanon him as illiterate. Like, unless Griffith gave him lessons I don’t see where he would’ve learned.

On the other hand we’ve seen Casca reading and she didn’t have much more opportunity for formal education than Guts. And there’s no indication of where back alley peasant kid Griffith learned to read and write either. So who knows?

Griffith would have found some way to learn regardless, and I wanna say maybe Casca learned as part of wanting to be useful to Griffith? Even though “being his sword” directly implies combat, I can see Casca wanting to be good in any area she can manage.

Same could maybe be said for the Guts who wants to be Griffith’s equal, but imo before he set that as his goal he was mostly focused on his role as the raiders’ captain and I don’t think that, at that point, he was embarrassed that he can’t read and Griffith can. Maybe later but yeah.

It’s still possible that Griffith tried to teach him for fun but I can see Guts being like “this is stupid & impossible” and just giving up about as easily as I can see him trying in order to impress Griffith. So yk. All headcanons are valid here I feel.

lol yes they’d never be able to stay mad at each other. maybe they could sulk for a while if they’re apart, during a work day or like if Guts stomps out of the house to walk around the block and brood, but as soon as they see each other again all is forgiven

lol i know nothing about this but looking it up and there seem to be a lot of themed mazes full of actors in makeup and prosthetics. so now i’m imagining guts and griffith both badly trying to pretend to be scared so they can cling to their strong brave bf when someone leaps out at them with a chainsaw.

or griffith immediately getting into role playing in a zombie apocalypse and guts reluctantly starting to have fun with it too

Guts, either pre-Hawks or post-Eclipse: sitting alone in his house with the lights off so no one comes to the door

Current Guts: moping but his outdoor lights are on and he has a bowl of candy by the door.

Golden Age Guts: at Griffith’s house party wearing a costume that
matches Griffith’s, spending most of the night denying that they’re a
couple whenever anyone gushes over their cute couples costume. but those
denials get more tentative and uncertain as the night goes on and he starts to wish he wasn’t denying it. (I couldn’t think of a good matching costume idea but after seeing that last ask i want to go with angel and demon costumes tbh.)
Also Guts has been there all day helping Griffith decorate. 

Golden Age Griffith: throwing a house party, taking great care in dressing himself and Guts up right before everyone starts showing up so they look perfect together, not exactly spending the whole night at Guts’ side but they keep ending up together, side by side on the couch or leaning against the wall observing people, or heading out for fresh air together.

The party goes til 3 am, and Guts and Griffith are the last ones up, drunk and cuddling on the couch together watching some horror movie on tv. Griffith rests his head against Guts’ shoulder and Guts is like, fuck it and impulsively leans down to kiss him. They end up making out for a while before passing out on top of each other.

Meanwhile Casca has met… let’s stick with Golden Age characters and go with Charlotte this time. Casca’s dressed as a pirate and Charlotte is a princess and Casca ends up say… rescuing Charlotte from a boring conversation. They end up in the kitchen getting drinks together and talking. Charlotte only just met Griffith recently and doesn’t really know anyone and is shy and awkward, Casca takes it upon herself to keep her company because Griffith and Guts are wrapped up in each other and she’s not in the mood to hang out with Corkus or Judeau all night. Eventually they ditch the party early to go walking around the neighbourhood, and find themselves sitting on swings at a playground together at 11pm, just talking about whatever. Maybe they go to Casca’s place and hook up or maybe they start a slower thing, either way.

NeoGriffith: throwing a joint house party with his platonic bff + roommate Charlotte, but Charlotte seems to be the main host and people only see Griffith around for the first hour or two. Locus and Grunbeld showed up early with extra booze in case they needed help setting up (they didn’t), and have a good time just chilling. Raksas is dressed as the scream ghostface, Irvine doesn’t show, and Zodd’s just there for the beer. Owen and Laban put in an appearance towards the end of the night, showing up between parties. Everyone leaves at a reasonable time, either to go home or to go to a wilder party. Anna and Charlotte are gfs and they stay up together to finish off the food and a few more drinks, then have great sex.

Griffith has spent the night watching the movie from that first golden age party, crying, and telling himself not to call Guts while scrolling through his facebook page hoping he doesn’t see pictures of him having fun at another party.

These scenarios can’t really be in continuity with each other bc Casca and Charlotte (or idk maybe there’s a convoluted modern au scenario that makes it work) but Griffith and Guts still first hooked up on halloween, just bc.

it’s hard to think of horror movie aus where there’s a good partnership which is why the conjuring is fun. if you’re devout enough i think someone could have fun with like an IT au. given how full of childhood trauma and repression berserk actually is.

oh man IT would work way too well. but yeah horror movies w/ fun partnerships aren’t common, i’ll keep the conjuring in mind next time i’m feeling like a horror movie tbh, it looks p fun.

hellraiser might be a good fit, tho honestly i’ve never actually seen it lol, i just know the aesthetic suits the godhand and you open portals to other dimensions through puzzle boxes and turn into bdsmy demons or smthn. but yeah i can’t think of any with good character dynamics for griffguts, just like aesthetics and tones to steal lol.

i love that art lol, there’s something so much fun in the idea of Griffith killing Guts and then just losing it and keeping his corpse around and surrounding himself with images of him.

also damn i love that gay werewolf story, and it seems v fitting. you don’t even necessarily have to go au to get something griffgutsy that’s inspired by it, if you don’t mind going like extra dark lol – say guts going full beast of darkness for a while, having killed his rpg group, and in a confrontation with neogriffith ngriff keeps him instead of killing him and the beast of darkness is yk, torn enough between love and hate that for a while longing and that sense of connection are enough to keep him ‘tame.’ And maybe eventually return his fully human consciousness.

i haven’t watched season 2 yet so idk about Castlevania specifically, but vampire aus are always solid. band of the hawk au idea? Griffith as a vampire who turns volunteers, until he meets vampire hunter Guts who’s trying to kill him, and can’t resist turning him instead of killing him when they fight.

hmm and right now i’m thinking about ways to make the canon fit a more traditionally halloween-y horror vibe. Like a sad ghost story – say, Guts keeps seeing images of human Griffith during his 2-3 years blackswordsmaning before NGriff’s resurrection, and he can’t tell whether he’s losing his mind or whether it’s some residual spiritual aspect of whatever human part of him got destroyed when he became Femto, or the ghosts that haunt him fucking with him.

or i know in one of the video games there’s an apostle that creates illusions. considering all the weird and varied magic powers apostles have there’s a lot of potential there in general. an apostle that can mess with people’s minds would make a good haunted… area story, wherever it happens to live. there was kind of a haunted house vibe in the video game i think. But yk like, sending people creepy visions, or visions of their personal worst fears, either to drive them away or just to fuck with them before they get eaten. Guts could get illusions of himself turning on his friends, or corpses of the old Band haunting him, and ofc Griffith maybe being alternately threatening and vulnerable and seductive, embodying Guts’ mixed feelings.

Like I’m kind of into the idea of Guts stepping into an apostle’s territory, seeing a vision of Griffith who appears and disappears, whispers in his ear and makes him jump and futilely swing at him, taunts him, brushes an insubstantial finger over his brand. maybe sometimes appears as a savaged corpse like how he’d look if the beast of darkness tore him apart, or femto, or post-torture Griffith, etc. That would be a lot of fun to play around with tbh.

and to go more actual like, monster au, i’m kind of partial to griffith as a siren. maybe with glamour, so he looks beautiful but underneath he’s got more of a monstrous bird thing going on. i mean that’s neogriffith and femto right there. and i can’t not associate guts with werewolves, that’s just obvious. So either of those would make a decent monster AU (both might be overkill lol). Siren Griffith who entrances people into following him, whether purposefully or not, and finds himself enthralled in turn by Guts. Or werewolf Guts who joins Griffith and fights for him, loyal and devoted and violent and bloodthirsty, and strikes fear into his enemies lol.

idk that’s about all i got for now. but if anyone else has any good horror ideas plz add to this. it’s halloween after all.

true… i feel like modern au griffith would be more of a drama queen or like, channel it through. healthier? outlets like social media. or being a groomzilla.

yeah i think depending on the au i could see a way more emotionally open griffith. like one thing about his general… mr calm and composed attitude to everything is that it’s not intrinsic and it doesn’t necessarily come naturally to him, he’s just forced himself to be very self-controlled throughout his life.

tbh I don’t think I should’ve said i can’t imagine griffith completely losing self-control, because i can imagine it under some circumstances, and i mean we’ve seen him attempt suicide (and he’s not in full control over himself when he’s self harming, eg, like he didn’t even seem aware he was doing it in Casca’s flashback, etc).

But yk to me drama queen suggests like, ott and melodramatic/overexaggerated emotional responses. imo Griffith’s most extreme emotional responses are pretty justified as reactions to extreme circumstances. Even Guts leaving was imo demonstrated to be genuinely significant to him, so his reaction didn’t feel overly extreme to me, and because we got his internal monologue we saw how much of his feelings he still kept hidden.

So it’s less that I can’t imagine him losing self control, and more that I can’t imagine him throwing a hissy fit, or screaming at someone in outrage, and generally blowing things out of proportion. that kind of thing.

But yeah like modern au Griffith, in different circumstances without a dream his life revolves around that forces him into a perfect self-controlled leader image, I could see him, yk, expressing his feelings before they started seeping out in self-destructive ways like unconscious self harm. Engaging in arguments, crying a bit more easily, etc. idk if I could really imagine him as an actual drama queen even then, but he could definitely be less cool and calm and composed in general.

But also like… bear in mind that this is me in unfun, contemplating the nuances of Griffith’s characterization mode. I want to respond to this with like a fun modern au groomzilla griffith scenario, I’m just bad at having fun and thinking of stuff like that, and your response made me ponder more about how canon Griffith expresses emotions lol.

The duel between Guts and Griffith before Griffith slept with Charlotte made me think that if Griffith succeeded killing him that it would trigger the behelit at the spot.

I could see it, or at least I could see him feeling behelit-worthy despair. logistically killing the best sacrifice and being far away from the rest of the hawks might stymie that but emotionally yk, it’s solid.

tho tbh I think that a Griffith who killed Guts during the duel would be a really interesting character if he just like, kept going afterwards. Like I could see that being an action that fundamentally changes him similarly to the Eclipse but yk, in a mundane, realistic way. He wouldn’t turn into a monster, but he would stop wondering if he’s cruel and start fully thinking of himself as a monster. He wouldn’t become malicious but he would become extremely ruthless, cold, and pragmatic. No more friendly socializing with the Hawks, unless he has to to maintain loyalty. And it would take his plans from kingdom to empire, like he’d start a new war at the first opportunity.

like basically neogriffith I guess lol. and this is ofc assuming he doesn’t immediately do something stupid and get himself killed. also he’d probably be adjacent to an epic emotional breakdown at all times, and when it finally happens he’ll take his whole kingdom down with him.

Like yk if the sacrifice represents an action with permanent consequences that fundamentally changes you, this could be the literal version of that fantasy metaphor.

Honestly it’s hard to imagine in a believable in-character way. I’d say the best bet here is Guts going Beast of Darkness and NeoGriffith confronting him alone and enticing him to fuck him instead of fight him. I don’t think it would take much convincing to get Guts’ Beast of Darkness brain to switch gears that way lol.

Tho first kiss feels way more difficult to make work. Maybe if Guts snaps out of it in the heat of the moment, and just ends up clinging to Griffith and maybe kissing him desperately before remembering everything?

Idk I can see Guts/NeoGriffith working as more than one fucked up desperate encounter before one kills the other only if like… Guts has also gone full monster for a while and murdered his rpg group or w/e, and no longer feels worthy of hatred/revenge/judgment of Griffith’s own inner darkness. And ofc this is assuming NGriff has come to accept that he is not, in fact, over Guts lol.

Maybe also with a side of differentiating NGriff from Femto, the same way Guts is differentiated from the beast of darkness, despite the beast being a part of him. Two dudes who have magical inner monsters as power up forms, like sure, that works for me.

So maybe they get back together after all, both having been saints and demons, and then they can make out properly.

You claim to have completed the threesome series but I’m afraid you missed the most important concept. That is the HC of Guts/Griffith/Apostle threesome and the Griffith/Guts/Serpico threesome existing AT THE SAME TIME. Applying the 1st Law of Threesomes of running into your ex, who would be the one to walk in on who? After applying the 2nd Law of Threesomes that GG will end exclusive will Serpico and the Apostles be friends(those kind of friends). Or will Berserk end with the world ending

yk I could tilt my head and see Serpico/Irvine (tho there might be too much apathy there, neither would call the other and they’d just bone on occasion after running into each other), Serpico/Grunbeld (Serpico seems kind of into fairly honourable knight types and I bet Serpico looks kind of like Edward, Grunebeld’s Berserk-esque ex. Doubt they have similar personalities tho), and Serpico/Locus (that knight archetype, tho idk there might be too much weird loyalty to others there lol).

Not Serpico/Raksas or Serpico/Zodd tho.

I think the odds are better that the world will end tho. I mean it’s Berserk, if anything’s going to destroy that world it’s going to be a time paradox caused by a weird convoluted sexual scenario.

Also if one threesome somehow walked in on another, that would mean there are doubles involved. Which I’m pretty sure would just end with Griffith/Guts/Griffith/Guts and Serpico and the apostles watching the show.

Griffith/Guts/Grunbeld

The three Gs. Grunbeld and Guts might have some respect for each other, especially if they’ve interacted at all since fighting on Flora’s lawn. Grunbeld seems a little Guts-like himself based on my knowledge of his book, and I think they’d get along in a kind of low-key, nodding at each other as they pass kind of way. So they’d be like, fine, interaction-wise.

I feel like the interesting part is actually from Grunbeld’s point of view lol, bc he might see some parallels between Griffith and Guts and him and his ex bf from the novel, because again, based on my limited second hand knowledge, it sounds like Miura basically remixed griffguts for Grunbeld’s backstory lol. Unforch I can’t get specific until I read it, but still.

The fact that he’s like, stupidly huge even in human form might make things a little awkward but I could see Guts getting some visceral satisfaction out of watching a dude twice his size manhandling Griffith and making him look small in comparison. Or maybe some visceral possessiveness, but I’m trying not to be too repetitive lol. either way yk, there might be some potential for shallowly visual power dynamic-y stuff.

Griffith/Guts/Irvine

This combo would be the most chill. I can’t rly imagine Griffith and Guts being together and deciding to invite someone over to have a threesome with to spice up their sex life, but if they did, Irvine would be who they’d call. Irvine does not give a fuck, he’s here, he’s happy to have some sex with the dude he’s instinctively attracted to and afterwards he’d be happy to leave and do his own thing, he’s not gonna get emotionally invested or weird about it. He’d be distantly polite to Guts and Guts would respond in kind. Even if his hackles rose at first I don’t think he’d maintain too much outrage over Irvine’s chill presence. They’d get down to business fairly utilitarian-ly, have some p good sex, then Irvine would peace out and leave Guts and Griff to get emotionally wrapped up in each other.

Griffith/Guts/Raksas

This is obviously the go-to combo for getting dark and kinda fucked up + sadistic.

Guts would get beast of darkness-y in Raksas’ presence. What would happen is that Raksas would touch Griffith – with some violence, like a cut from a claw – and Guts would like, throw him across the room in a weird mix of practically instinctive protectiveness but also possessiveness in an “I’m the only one who can hurt him” kind of way. And Raksas would retreat a little but watch eagerly, and maybe if Guts lost control and stopped being all that aware of his surroundings, he’d eventually join in again.

Also I’m gonna say being hurt reminds NGriff of being human. This may or may not be a good thing, but it’s got potential for good emotional content either way, especially when it’s Guts doing it. Like that whole torture fallout thing I was going on about.

Sure! I mean, when it comes to headcanons none of these are hard and fast, I’m pretty changeable depending on circumstances and can roll with a lot of stuff in fic, eg. But here’s some ideas I tend to default to. Mild warning for one hc involving rape fantasies btw.

If Guts hadn’t overheard the Promrose Hall speech, they would’ve gotten together in Tombstone of Flame Part 2. Griffith being vulnerable and worried about Guts’ opinion of him as filthy and/or cruel = Guts kissing him. Dreams got in the way and ruined it.

Guts and Griffith would be extremely touchy feely in a relationship. Super cuddly, it would take constant effort to keep their hands off each other in public. They practically crave physical contact with each other, they’re magnetized.

Griffith is very into Guts’ physical strength and loves being manhandled by him. He’d be super into Guts holding him and fucking him against a wall, eg.

Guts has got a serious Thing for Griffith’s hair. He has a tendency to bury his face in it if he’s holding Griffith from behind, or smell it if he happens to be leaning in, or tuck it behind his ear for him on a windy day, etc.

They both have strong feelings about being protected by the other. Griffith saving Guts from Zodd, Guts planting himself between the bulk of Gennon’s army and Griffith (or later on, Guts killing the torturer and rampaging thru Midland), that kind of thing. Being able to trust the other to defend him is huge for them, and fulfills an emotional need neither really knew existed until it was filled.

Guts’ favourite part of having sex with Griffith would be making him lose his control over himself, knowing he’s the only one who can do that to Griffith, and the only one Griffith will allow to see him lose control.

Griffith has occasional rape/ravishment/kidnapping fantasies in which Guts is an enemy who defeats him in a fight and basically keeps him as a sex slave. The elements that appeal to him on a deep emotional level that he’s not entirely aware of is having his dream being forcibly taken away, having no power to attain it anymore and therefore no more responsibility to the dead. Relatedly, deep deep down I think Griffith hates his dream. It’s a trap of guilt and responsibility and power, and Guts was a potential escape from it/could still be at least emotionally in an AU where they’re together.  Like Eggman’s speech about torches illuminating your disgustingly cruel self and hating those torches even while you can’t bring yourself to let go of them. Egg was talking about relationships, but in Griffith’s case it describes his relationship to his dream to a tee regardless of whatever Miura’s intent might’ve been. Basically Guts is a healthier alternative to the dream emotionally. Sorry I’m kinda digressing into meta here lmao. Back to headcanons.

Guts might initially frame his attraction to Griffith as an attraction to his androgyny, and he’d have to more slowly come to terms with accepting that he likes Griffith’s masculinity too.

He also similarly might hold Griffith separate from men in general because he thinks of him as just on another level. In a way this is handy bc it means Guts might find it easier to accept the idea of sex with Griffith without relating it to his csa trauma, at least not immediately drawing the association, bc Griffith is just in a special category of his own to him. Yk, it’s not ~sex with a man~, it’s sex with Griffith. But it’s also kind of pedestalizing him, and it’s something Guts will eventually have to overcome. Seeing Griffith as vulnerable and human would help that along.

Some of their best sex would actually be quick rough encounters, a while into their relationship when they’re pretty comfortable, when Guts allows himself to lose control a bit and express his desire through sort of base and needy fucking. No foreplay or build up, just a sense of desperate need between them. Appeals to both Griffith wanting Guts to want him and Guts wanting Griffith’s focus on him.

Guts has probably had some wet dreams in which sparring/wrestling with Griffith turns into grinding lol.

post-Eclipse, Guts absolutely has semi-regular sex dreams about Griffith. I’m pretty sure that’s legit implied by the text. Some are dark and involve Femto or NeoGriffith, some are wistful and take place in the past in a what-could-have-been kinda way, and Guts has crysturbated while remembering some of the latter.

Serpico comes to Midland with Farnese and the Holy Iron Chain Knights, maybe in an attempt to unite kingdoms under the holy see to fight ganeshka’s giant army beginning to move west or whatever. Guts is still there because he hasn’t overheard the Promrose Hall speech, but he and Griffith aren’t fucking yet.

Serpico and Guts instantly dislike each other but lbr they’re both each others’ type and they both respect each others’ abilities too once they get to know each other more, and they end up working together quite a bit because Guts is nobility now and a high ranking captain in Midland’s royal army, so they get a sort of mild rivals -> lovers relationship arc.

Then Griffith walks in on them.

So Guts and Griffith still have an intense borderline romantic relationship full of barely repressed mutual pining, Guts getting together with Serpico has maybe been his wake-up call that he would also want more with Griffith, but at the same time he wouldn’t want to ruin their friendship lol and Griffith has his political het marriage so he’s kind of unattainable so he’s happy with Serpico. And now Griffith has to suddenly confront the fact that he wants to be in Serpico’s place.

So Griffith turns around to flee the immediate awkwardness and his own feelings, and Guts is like, shit better follow him and make sure he’s not freaked out by the fact that we’re hooking up, and… one thing leads to another, they end up making out against a wall, Guts wakes up after a few minutes and is like, damn I just abandoned Serpico mid-sex, I’d better go apologize, and Griffith is like, I’ll come with you.

But uh, more sensual and sexy and emotionally intimate. During sex Serpico realizes emphatically that he’s the third wheel but his apathy makes it easy for him to shrug and move on with only a little melancholy disappointment.

lol i feel like this is the hardest possible guts/griff/apostle configuration to make work. Unlike Zodd who wouldn’t care that much about being a third wheel, Locus seems pretty personally devoted to Griffith. Like I think I once chose Locus as the apostle most likely to hate Guts lol, I could just see him getting super jealous and uptight while pretending it’s nothing deeper than the fact that he doesn’t trust Guts.

Like he’s got both Guts and Griffith’s all encompassing ridiculously intense past relationship to contend with AND the fact that they are/were mortal enemies and Guts probably still wants to kill Griffith on some level, I feel like that’s a double whammy of things that would make Locus hate Guts.

(I mean I’m kind of making up the idea that he’d be the jealous type, but idk based on some details like his outrage when Rickert slapped Griffith, the way he, as a knight, didn’t find a lord he wanted to serve until Griffith which makes me figure he’d be extra loyal and devoted once he does join Griffith, his wistfulness about apostles having a place in Falconia, etc, yk on an emotional level he seems pretty invested in Griffith. Add a sexual relationship to that and I could see him being jealous.)

and again I guess in like a scenario where NGriff and Locus are already having sex and Guts walks in and gets a chance to join in and takes it because he’s kind of past the point of self denial, I could see it happening. but man I think the atmosphere in that room would be painfully awkward and tense lol. A lot of both of them pretending the other isn’t there except occasionally to glare at him when their hands accidentally brush.

Back to that Zodd/Griffith/Guts question. Well if it’s more realistic that Zodd and Guts fight over Griffith as Griffith gets off watching than what would happen if you take into account the rest of the Apostle squad?
