Theme: Divided

Another Inktober entry!  For ‘Divided,’ I chose to depict a character from Kentaro Miura’s  dark fantasy manga Berserk: Griffith, the adversary and yang to Guts’ yin…or is it yin to Guts’ yang?

Berserk is a dark, disturbing, but fascinating creation.  The stories of Guts and Griffith mirror each other beautifully, as both aesthetically and metaphorically, they are polar opposites.  Guts is a tall, dark, hulking swordsman; all nihilism and force, whilst Griffith is the ‘prince charming’ archetype; angelic, silver-tongued, idealistic, and charismatic.  Fate brings them together, and they find their paths flipped: Guts, once full of rage due to being slapped upside the head by his destiny, ultimately decides to change his fate, whilst Griffith ultimately gives into his fate, with devastating consequences for the very mercenary band he lead and cared for…For this reason, the latter is a fascinating antagonist.
